Salt one of the most precious spices from the orient has always played an important role in the Armenian kitchen. Salt adds flavor, or as we say in Armenian "hahm".

Traditionally every home had a salt pot (placed next to the stove) fashioned in the shape of the pagan goddes Anahit who represented love, fertility and "hahm". Salt sacks (woven like carpets) were used to transport the salt from the market to the home.
